"GASLIGHTS TO FOOTLIGHTS" SETS STAGE FOR '62 CENTER SEASON
The College Archives has mounted a retrospective exhibit of Williams' theatrical history. On display till May 2006, the exhibit presents more than two centuries of thespian paraphernalia, including pictures, programs, posters, and more. MARITIME STUDIES PROGRAM GAINING LAB AND TEACHING FACILITIES
Williams-Mystic, the maritime studies program of Williams College and Mystic Seaport, broke ground recently for the James T. Carlton Marine Science Center. The 4,500-square foot facility will house new laboratory and teaching facilities.

WILLIAMS AND CLARK OFFER FELLOWSHIP IN VISUAL CULTURE

Since 1960, Williams' Center for Development Economics has hosted rising economists from developing nations around the world. This year's 27 students hail from 21 countries, ranging from Burkina Faso to Vietnam.

AN ANNOTATED TOUR OF MIDDLE-EARTH BY THE EXPERTS
"The Lord of the Rings: A Reader's Companion" (Houghton-Mifflin, this month) is the latest scholarly publication on J.R.R. Tolkien's masterpiece by Wayne G. Hammond, assistant librarian of the Chapin Library, and his wife, Christina Scull.

ALUMNI FUND/PARENT FUND GIFTS ON OR BEFORE DECEMBER 31 EARN 2005 TAX DEDUCTIONS
Tax-wise Alumni Fund and Parent Fund contributors who plan to make deductible gifts in 2005 can do so online with a credit card by going to http://give2.williams.edu. (Credit card gifts are only deductible for 2005 tax purposes if they are entered and authorized online by 11:55pm PST on 12/31/05, which is 2:55am EST on 1/1/05.) We are also pleased to accept personal checks made out to "Williams College Alumni Fund" or "Williams College Parents Fund" and mailed to the Office of Annual Giving, 75 Park St., Williamstown, MA 01267, dated and postmarked no later than Dec. 31, 2005. Instructions about transferring securities online can be found at www.williams.edu/alumni/givestock2williams
KETRA, the Katrina Emergency Tax Relief Act, temporarily suspends--for gifts made between August 28 and December 31, 2005--some limits on deductions for charitable gifts of cash. KETRA increases the contribution limit for certain outright gifts of cash from 50 percent of adjusted gross income to 100 percent of adjusted gross income. These same outright gifts of cash are also exempt from the three-percent reduction in itemized deductions for individuals with an adjusted gross income over $145,950. Questions?
