WILLIAMS HOSTS CONGRESSIONAL BLACK CAUCUS

Thirteen days after Barack Obama was elected the 44th President of the United States, nine members of the Congressional Black Caucus convened at Williams to answer questions from "60 Minutes" correspondent Lesley Stahl, Massachusetts Governor Deval Patrick, and Williams students. Visiting Lecturer in Political Science Bernard Moore spearheaded the event, which included meetings between caucus members and small groups of students. Read local and national press reports.

Plan Now for Year-End Stock Donations...and for IRA Gifts
Give yourself a few weeks lead time to transfer appreciated securities or mutual fund shares to Williams before the year-end rush. Just call or e-mail Sue Morin (413-597-4118 securities@williams.edu) to get the ball rolling. This is a great way to earn a 2008 charitable tax deduction and avoid capital gains tax. Read on. And for Ephs 70 ½ or older, the IRS is offering another chance this year to make a tax-free gift from your IRA.

All Williams financial aid is need-based. The College stands ready to work with families who have experienced recent and dramatic financial reversals. If your family’s income will be substantially less in 2008 than in 2007, feel free to contact the Financial Aid Office now at finaid@williams.edu (phone 413.597.4181). If your family’s home value or investments have declined, please wait until this coming spring when you will be invited to update that information to help Williams calculate your 2009-10 award.
