Bicentennial Medalists at Convocation

Five Williams Bicentennial Medalists were honored
at Saturday's Convocation ceremonies: the Honorable Karen Ashby ’79, a nationally recognized expert in juvenile and family law; Mika Brzezinski '89, a television news journalist and familiar anchor on MSNBC's Morning Joe, NBC Nightly News, and Weekend Today; Gary Fisketjon '76, a vice president at Alfred A. Knopf considered an editorial master by established writers worldwide; John Raynolds '51, who helped devise strategies that led to the development of the U.S. Navy SEALs and steered Outward Bound, USA, through its largest growth in history; and Senator Mark Udall '72, an accomplished mountain climber nationally recognized for his commitment to environmental issues.

The Financial State of the College

Williams Gets Gold for Green
The U.S. Green Building Council has awarded Williams' new Schapiro Hall and North Academic Building LEED Gold status. "LEED" (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) is the council's rating system for design and construction of energy-efficient and high-performing buildings. Read on.

Mellon Mays Fellowships Encourage Careers in Academe
This summer, ten Williams juniors and four students from Cape Town, South Africa spent six weeks at Williams doing research in the arts and sciences as a part of the Mellon Mays Undergraduate Fellowship Program and the Williams College Undergraduate Research Fellowship. Read on.

Williams has appointed poet Lillian-Yvonne Bertram (left) and philosopher Shay Welch (right) as Gaius Charles Bolin Fellows who will teach at the College while they complete advanced degrees. Read on.

Peanut butter and jelly, strawberries and cream, math and ... humor? Math professor Colin Adams' latest book, "Riot at the Calc Exam and Other Mathematically Bent Stories," is full of comedic spoofs that aim to eradicate student anxiety. Read on.

Established in 1982 to connect black alumni with black undergraduates, Career Mentor Weekend has grown to include all alumni and students of color as well as members of the College’s Bisexual, Gay, Lesbian and Transgendered community. Register here.


Final Thoughts on Williams Expedition
"21 events in 23 cities in 25 days...and while some of those cities have well-established and active regional alumni groups, some have groups that meet once or twice a year, others have groups that haven’t met in years, and still others don’t have any official regional association at all...
