WILLIAMS COMMUNITY RESPONDS TO HURRICANE KATRINA

Several Williams initiatives are underway to help the victims of Hurricane Katrina. CONVOCATION MEETS BICENTENNIAL MEDALS

Convocation opened the big doors for the Class of 2006 on September 17. Featured this year were the presentation of the Bicentennial Medals and a speech by Museum of Modern Art director Glenn Lowry '76.

WILLIAMS RANKED NUMBER ONE FOR THIRD STRAIGHT YEAR

In the 2006 U.S. News & World Report's popular and controversial college rankings, Williams ranked #1 among national liberal arts colleges for the third year in a row. Amherst came second, followed by Swarthmore.

JOY A. JAMES JOINS WILLIAMS FACULTY

Joy A. James, formerly professor of Africana studies at Brown University, has been appointed the John B. and John T. McCoy Presidential Professor of Africana Studies and professor of political science.

PROF. JOHNSON NAMED W. FORD SCHUMANN FACULTY FELLOW

Professor of political science Cathy Johnson has been named the W. Ford Schumann Faculty Fellow in Democratic Studies. Johnson will coordinate the W. Ford Schumann Visiting Professorship in Democratic Studies by recruiting distinguished speakers and promoting cross-departmental collaboration to increase awareness of democracy and civic responsibility.

PROF. SANDSTROM AWARDED GRANTS FOR RESEARCH PROJECTS

Assistant professor of psychology Noah Sandstrom has received grants from the National Institutes of Health and the National Science Foundation to support his research project, "Estrogen and Cognition Following Ischemia."

COLLEGE ADVISING AVAILABLE FOR CHILDREN OF ALUMNI

The Office of Admission offers preliminary assessment to children of alumni who are high school seniors or rising seniors. Students may request an appointment with senior admission staff to obtain early evaluation of their credentials. They also can participate in campus tours and group information sessions.
