In remarks on campus at the start of the academic year, President Schapiro has said that while so much is going well for Williams, this is a college that never is complacent, and he has therefore called on the campus community to focus on two sets of issues in which Williams needs to improve:

DIVERSITY

One has to do with civility and tolerance in our increasingly diverse community. For a letter from President Schapiro on this subject click here http://www.williams.edu/alumni/ofnotes/divletter.html. For updates you can check the Williams Record at http://www.williamsrecord.com/wr/

ALCOHOL AND TAILGATING

The other set of issues involves alcohol and particularly tailgating. A new task force made up of students, administrators, and faculty is up and running to work on general issues of alcohol. As you may have heard, Williams has adopted new policies for tailgating on Weston Field. Starting this fall, fans can no longer bring their own alcohol to home football games. Beer and wine will be available for purchase by anyone of legal drinking age.
