2005 BICENTENNIAL MEDALS TO BE AWARDED AT SEPT. 17 CONVOCATION

In recognition of "significant achievement in any field of endeavor," this year's Bicentennial Medals will be awarded to BERNARD BAILYN '44, Pulitzer Prize-winning historian of colonial and revolutionary America; EDGAR BRONFMAN '50, President of the World Jewish Congress and World Jewish Restitution Organization; ALBERT "PETE" GURNEY '52, award-winning playwright; GLENN LOWRY '76, Director of the Museum of Modern Art; INIGO MANGLANO-OVALLE '83, acclaimed mixed media artist and MacArthur Fellow; and MARISA REDDY RANDAZZO '89, nationally recognized psychologist with expertise in targeted violence and threat assessment in schools. Convocation begins at 11:00 a.m. in Chapin Hall.

'62 CENTER FOR THEATRE AND DANCE LAUNCHES INAUGURAL SEASON

The first season of '62 Center for Theatre and Dance opens in late September and will present, throughout the year, performances in theatre and dance as well as storytelling and puppetry and a rock opera, and will include a wide range of artist residencies. SIX PROFESSORS AWARDED TENURE

Six assistant professors have risen to the rank of associate professor with tenure. They are Jon M. Bakija, economics; William M. Gentry, economics; Shinko Kagaya, Japanese; Peter D. Low, art; Marlene J. Sandstrom, psychology; and Kasumi Yamamoto, Japanese.

WCMA'S "MOVING" PICTURES

K. SCOTT WONG'S "AMERICANS FIRST"

Professor of History K. Scott Wong's new book, "Americans First: Chinese Americans and the Second World War" (Harvard U. Press) focuses on the trials and successes of Chinese-Americans during the 1930s and through WWII.

NEW STATISTICS TEXTBOOKS ARE...FUN?

Professor of statistics Richard D. De Veaux and colleagues Paul Velleman and David Bock of Cornell University have brought out a series of statistics textbooks that combine wit with, well, with statistics. The idea is to engage students -- and with over 200 colleges and universities using the series so far, something must be working!

RAIN SHORTENS 45TH ANNUAL ALUMNI GOLF TOURNAMENT

While the 216 alumni golfers enjoyed beautiful weather for their first four

matches on Friday and Saturday, a storm Sunday morning brought enough rain

Plans are underway for the third Alumni Ski Week in fantastic Sun Valley, Idaho, from March 11-18, 2006. COLLEGE ADVISING AVAILABLE FOR CHILDREN OF ALUMNI

The Office of Admission offers preliminary assessment to children of alumni who are high school seniors or rising seniors. Students may request an appointment with senior admission staff to obtain early evaluation of their credentials. They also can participate in campus tours and group information sessions.
