PROFS. HEDREEN AND MCGOWAN TO DIRECT WILLIAMS-EXETER PROGRAM
The College has named professors of art Guy Hedreen and Elizabeth McGowan as
co-directors of the Williams-Exeter Program and has chosen the 26 juniors who
will attend the year-long program of study at
Exeter
College
at the
University
of
Oxford.

NEW WCMA HANDBOOK OFF PRESS
The Williams College Museum of Art proudly presents "Encounter," its
first handbook of the collection in 27 years. The last one, by S. Lane Faison,

SUMMER SKIES ON SHOW OVER WILLIAMSTOWN
The College's Milham Planetarium, located inside the old Hopkins Observatory,
will host free shows for the public on Tuesdays and Thursdays through August
15. Demonstrations of planet motion, phases of the moon and other celestial
wonders will commence at 8:30 p.m.

BANNER YEAR FOR THE WILLIAMS CAMPAIGN
On June 30, the end of The Williams Campaign's third year, the College had gift
commitments of more than $320 million, considerably above the straight-line

IN MEMORY OF PROF. EARL MCFARLAND
The College notes with sadness the passing of Earl Lester McFarland, Jr.,
professor of economics emeritus, who died July 9 in Gabarone, Botswana. He was

ANDREW LAZAROW '07 TAKES A BOW IN CINCINNATI THEATRE
Fresh from the Williams in New York program Lazarow, a senior this fall, is
training with the New Stage Collective in Cincinnati, where he has already
directed two plays. Later this summer he'll collaborate with Caroline Taylor
'04 in
New York.

SENIORS OF THE CLASS OF 2006 INDUCTED INTO SIGMA XI...
Fifty-four members of the Class of 2006 were awarded membership in Sigma Xi,
the international scientific research society. All completed extensive research
for senior theses, demonstrating the intellectual initiative the society seeks.

The national honor society accepted 38 members of the Class of 2006 into its

Assuming the mantle from outgoing president Jill Stephens '77, Richard Levy,
Jr. '74 of Larchmont, N.Y., was elected president of the Williams College
Society of Alumni at the Society's annual meeting in June.

COLLEGE ADVISING AVAILABLE FOR CHILDREN OF ALUMNI

November 2006, sons and daughters of alumni who are rising seniors
or seniors may meet with a senior admission officer for an early evaluation of
their credentials. To schedule, call the Office of Admission at 413-597-2214.
Important: Be sure to identify yourself as an alumni daughter or son. When you
visit Williams, bring a copy of your most recent (unofficial) transcript and
any test scores and, if you visit while the college is in session, plan to join
a campus tour, attend a group information session, and attend classes.
