Eight Seniors Awarded Graduate Fellowships in England

Prof. Brown Wins OAH Best First Book Award
The Frederick Jackson Turner Award, given by the Organization of American Historians for an author's first book on a significant phase of American History, will be awarded to Leslie Brown, assistant professor of history. Read on.
Prof. Pierson's Memorial Service
A memorial service for William Pierson, Massachusetts Professor of Art, Emeritus, is scheduled for Saturday, May 16, at 11 a.m. in Thompson Chapel. All are invited to a reception afterwards in the Faculty House.

Promoted to associate professor with tenure as of July 1, 2009 are Lois Banta, biology; Melissa Barry, philosophy; Christopher Bolton, comparative and Japanese literature; Amy Gehring '94, chemistry; Edward Gollin, music; Gretchen Long, history; Nicole Mellow, political science; Allison Pacelli, mathematics; Katarzyna Pieprzak, French and comparative literature; Ashok Rai, economics; Eiko Maruko Siniawer, history; and David Tucker-Smith, physics. Williams Cycling Weekend July 17-19
This trip for cycling enthusiasts will give Ephs the chance to ride together on the terrific rural roads of Berkshire County, Southern Vermont, and New York State. Off the bikes we'll exercise our minds with rich intellectual and cultural opportunities while enjoying some appropriate carbo-loading.
