MIKE REED '75 NAMED VICE PRESIDENT FOR INSTITUTIONAL DIVERSITY AND STRATEGIC PLANNING

WCMA'S POLLOCK SYMPOSIUM WILL HONOR KIRK VARNEDOE '67
The Williams College Museum of Art's Plonsker Family Symposium, "Jackson Pollock: Beneath the Surface," will be held on Saturday, May 13, in honor of Kirk Varnedoe '67. The symposium will feature four Pollock scholars.

WILLIAMS IN AFRICA" PROGRAM TO FOCUS ON SOCIAL PROBLEMS
The new Williams in Africa program (WiA), directed by Professor of Theatre and Academic Director of the Multicultural Center David Eppel, will allow students to participate in a variety of programs, from summer internships to one-year fellowships, in and around Cape Town, South Africa.

LUCE FOUNDATION GRANT TO PROMOTE STUDIES IN SUSTAINABILITY
Edward Brust Professor of Geology and Mineralogy David Dethier envisions a collaboration of interest among science majors and students and faculty from other fields as plans unfold for the Henry Luce Foundation's $420,000 grant to Williams.

RICHARD DE VEAUX AWARDED PRINCETON VISITING PROFESSORSHIP
Professor of Statistics Richard D. De Veaux has been invited to Princeton University to serve as one of its Visiting Professors for Distinguished Teaching. During the 2006-07 school year De Veaux's duties will include organizing activities for faculty and graduate students on the art and craft of teaching.

PROF. PAUL ON GLOBAL ECONOMY
Assistant Professor of Political Science Darel E. Paul's new book, "Rescaling International Political Economy: Subnational States and the Regulation of the Global Political Economy" (Routledge) explores global economics beyond the level of state behavior.

WILLIAMS SYMPHONIC WINDS PICKED FOR BAND DIRECTORS CONFERENCE
The College's Symphonic Winds ensemble will be among the performers at the College Band Directors National Association eastern division conference at Montclair State University on March 23.
