"My first attempted kill brought me to Mission at 2:45 a.m. I crept up to my target’s room and reached for the doorknob, which wouldn't budge. Evidently, my victim had locked his door. What nerve. NEW STUDENT UNION NAMED "THE PARESKY CENTER"
President Morty Schapiro announced this week that the new student center, scheduled for completion early in 2007, will be named The Paresky Center in honor of its principal donors, David Paresky, Class of 1960, and his wife, Linda.

PROF. LENHART NEW PROVOST, PROF. WAGNER NEW DEAN OF FACULTY
Bill Lenhart, the A. Barton Hepburn Professor of Computer Science, has accepted the position of provost, succeeding economics professor Cappy Hill '76, who is leaving Williams to become president of Vassar College. Bill Wagner, the Brown Professor of History, has been appointed dean of the faculty, succeeding history professor Tom Kohut.

CAMPUS HOUSING PLAN FINALIZED
Changes to the Williams House System have been approved by the Board of Trustees. Undergraduates will live in four housing clusters, with first-year students living in Mission Park, Williams, and Sage.

REMEMBERING PROF. VINCENT BARNETT
The College notes with sadness the passing of Vincent M. Barnett Jr.  Prof. Barnett, who came to Williams in 1939, was the James Phinney Baxter 3rd Professor of Political Science, emeritus. He also helped found the College’s Center for Development Economics.

HUMANITIES, SOCIAL SCIENCES AND LIBRARY ADVANCE
The Board of Trustees has voted unanimously to proceed with a major construction and renovation project for the humanities and social sciences and the College library. Construction is slated to begin as early as spring 2007.

WILLIAMS NAMED TRUMAN SCHOLARSHIP HONOR INSTITUTION
The Harry S. Truman Scholarship Foundation has named Williams as one of four Truman Scholarship Honor Institutions for 2005.

FOUR NAMED TO ASSOCIATE PROFESSOR WITH TENURE
Four assistant professors have been promoted to the rank of associate professor with tenure. They are Laylah Ali '90, art; Joseph Cruz '91, philosophy; Liza Johnson '92, art; and Ileana Perez Velazquez, music.

TEXTBOOK OFFERS NEW APPROACH TO TEACHING
Professor Thomas Murtagh, associate professor Andrea Danyluk and their former Williams colleague Kim Bruce have written a new textbook that rethinks the teaching of computer programming language.
